Your Comprehensive Vision and Eye Health Assessment

At The Eye Center of Parkville we feel it necessary to keep the standards high in the services we provide and products we recommend.

We do not take any shortcuts with your vision! Providing you outstanding services and quality products in a caring environment is our main objective. Your vision and eye health is our most important concern. That’s why we offer a comprehensive eye examination that will uncover hidden, symptomless, potentially sight-threatening eye disorders and diseases that are not found by a simple vision screening.

For this thorough exam, patients should plan for at least 60-75 minutes for your appointment. Below is a short list of some of the things that we do.

Medical History

Since the eyes are part of the body, they can be affected by seemingly unrelated health conditions. We must know about your general health and your medications, including non-prescription medications prior to treatment.

Neurological Screenings

Evaluating the way your eyes and pupils function can tell us if the nerves and muscles controlling your eyes are working properly or require more investigation.

Visual Field

The extent and depth of your peripheral vision will be screened with a new state of the art visual field instrument. This device helps us detect early glaucoma and other neurologic disorders.

Optomap Ultra-widefield Retinal Imaging

In a single, quick shot, this camera produces “optomap” photos of about 82% of the retina. These optomap images provide superior visibility of the retinal periphery allowing us to see, document, show you, and follow pathology that could not be seen with traditional eye cameras. The optomap exam is quick and painless; combined with our thorough eye exams this advanced technology offers a new level of diagnostic confidence.

The Refraction

Both automated and doctor-controlled instruments, plus patient directed methods, are used to obtain the best vision for you.  In cases where your vision can not be corrected to 20/20, the refraction can help to diagnose subtle eye disease that may require further attention.

Eye Health Evaluation

This takes up most of the examination. The microscope is used, the pupils are often dilated and the inside of the eye is viewed using the proper instruments. We can detect early signs of glaucoma, cataracts, hypertension, diabetes and many other systemic diseases.

Consultation

All patients and parents will be provided with an explanation of the findings, their significance, the treatment plan and other options. Your questions will be answered, and the solutions to any difficulties will be reviewed.
